Patients with an Anima account can add a dependent to their account in their patient dashboard → Settings → Dependents & Children. If they’re unable to, or do not have an Anima account themselves, you can follow the steps below.
If a caregiver calls the surgery to set up an Anima account for a dependent, you’ll need to follow these steps:
2. Search for the dependent via the NHS number or first name/last name/email.
3. You should see a message “We could not find an Anima account for this patient.” and “You will need to take their details and create an account for them before completing a request on their behalf.”
4. Click "Create new patient account".
5. Click “Register the patient as a dependant”, and follow the steps, adding the NHS number of the caregiver. The caregiver must have an Anima account set up for this to work.
If the caregiver already has an account:
Under Patient dependency, select “Register the patient as a dependant”
Read the notice: dependants are patients who cannot use Anima themselves (e.g. children under 13)
In Caregiver search:
Select Registered practice
Enter the caregiver’s NHS number (not the dependant’s)
If found, Caregiver details appear:
Complete Dependant details:
Registered practice
NHS number (pre-filled from search)
Name, DOB, sex, postcode
Relationship of caregiver to dependant (required, e.g. “mother”, “father”)
Confirm Consent checkboxes with the caregiver
Click “Create dependant account”.
If the caregiver does not have an account:
After entering caregiver NHS number, staff see:
“No Anima account is associated with this NHS Number. Please type in the caregiver's details and create an account for them first. You will then be asked to register their dependent.”
Complete Caregiver details + contact info + consent
Click “Create account for caregiver”
Success message tells staff to confirm the caregiver received their login email
The form then moves to Dependant details (see above)
