Understanding the SAS (Subject Access Scheme) Patient Warning

Updated this week

What is the SAS warning?

When you see a yellow warning banner with a triangle icon on a patient's record, this indicates the patient is registered under the NHS England Subject Access Scheme (SAS). This flag means the patient's GP record has been marked due to past incidents involving serious aggression or safety concerns, and their access to GP services is managed under specific protocols.

What does this mean in Anima?

Anima displays this warning banner to ensure all clinicians and administrative staff are immediately aware when reviewing requests from SAS patients. This helps maintain safety and ensures appropriate procedures are followed.

What should I do?

The SAS flag does not prevent you from managing the patient's request or appointment. However, you should:

  • Follow your practice's local SAS policy and procedures

  • Check any specific requirements about where the patient can be seen

  • Ensure the appropriate staff member reviews the request

  • Follow any safety procedures your practice has in place for SAS patients

If you're unsure of your practice's SAS policy, please speak with your practice manager or clinical lead.
