What's new
A new home for Anima
Anima now opens in a new, faster shell built around a redesigned sidebar and sign-in screen. The sidebar groups your work into queues (Medical, Admin, Repeat Prescriptions) with live open-request counts, remembers whether you prefer it expanded or collapsed to an icon rail, and puts Settings, Help and the practice switcher within one click. The sign-in screen supports password, multi-factor and NHS CIS2 sign-in, and keeps you signed in through short network blips rather than returning you to the login page. Pages that haven't moved to the new design yet still open inside the new shell, so you keep one window, one sidebar and one session throughout.
Insights: demand and capacity for your practice
Insights is Anima's new AI data analytics layer, available from the sidebar. It gives you a live and historical picture of demand and capacity at your practice - what's open right now and how old it is, what's waiting on patients, which team each request sits with, demand by hour and day, same-day and next-day action rates, response times, medical versus admin split, submission methods, appointment outcomes and booking-link use. Boards can be customised from a library of report blocks, every card shows how its figure was grounded, and you can drill into any report by condition, team, priority or time period. Multi-site organisations and ICBs can also access Insights through a standalone portal with the same reports and access controls.
Build and send your own custom questionnaires
Practices can now build and publish their own questionnaires from Organisation Settings → Requests → Questionnaires. Give it a name and request type, then add single-choice, multiple-choice, free-text, number (with an optional allowed range) or date questions, with single-choice answers able to skip ahead or finish the questionnaire early. Save as a draft while you work, then publish when ready - publishing fixes a version, so a patient part-way through never sees a half-edited questionnaire. Duplicate, delete or copy a patient link for any questionnaire from the list. Published questionnaires appear labelled "(Custom)" wherever you send one to a patient - Toolbar → Send message, Document Processing → Send follow-up and Scribe → Follow-up - and responses come back as normal requests with a Questionnaire answers section.
NHS Patient Flags in the patient panel (early access)
The patient side panel now shows a patient's NHS flags alongside their other details: reasonable adjustments, Child Protection Information Sharing (CP-IS) and FGM safeguarding flags. The section is read-only and uses your existing Anima login, so no separate sign-in is needed. It appears for practices with NHS Patient Flags enabled - contact Anima support to switch it on.
Ideas, Concerns and Expectations (ICE) wording
You can now restore the classic "Ideas, Concerns, Expectations" closing question on your simplified triage questionnaires, instead of the newer generic closing message. This is off by default - turn it on in Organisation Settings → Manage content.
Streamlined sign-off messages
A new organisation setting lets you send shorter sign-off messages that keep only your greeting, your own text and the closing, leaving out the stock review sentence and the generated appointment details. Off by default, under Organisation Settings → Requests → Saving.
Switch request types off for Andi only
You can now disable individual request types for Andi (phone requests) without also disabling them online. The new "Disable requests for Andi" block sits under the online one in Organisation Settings → Manage content, and each list is saved separately.
Drag-and-drop workflow ordering
Document workflows in Settings → Document Processing can now be reordered by dragging them into place, instead of moving them one position at a time with the up/down arrows.
Reports that keep running in the background
Every report and data export in Organisation Settings now generates in the background. You can leave the page or refresh, then come back and download the finished file. Each report shows whether it's processing, ready or failed, and data exports now live in the export modal.
Faster Scribe transcripts
Scribe now transcribes your recording in short segments while you're still talking. When you stop, the transcript opens straight away and fills in as each segment completes, taking you to your notes as soon as they're ready. Recordings where no speech was detected now end cleanly with a clear message rather than a processing error.
Clearer call recording status
Call recordings now show a "processing" indicator for the first few minutes after a call instead of looking broken, and a clear message appears if a recording fails to load.
Andi patient matching and name capture
Andi now asks extra confirmation questions before matching a caller to a patient record, reducing the risk of matching the wrong patient, and captures a caller's surname letter-by-letter for better accuracy.
FY2 Doctor role
"FY2 Doctor" is now available as a role when inviting colleagues and in user settings, and is treated as a doctor role for titles and sign-off.
Coming soon (early access available)
A new way to file requests on a patient's behalf
We've rebuilt the proxy request experience for staff filing a request for a patient - whether that's a parent phoning about their child, a carer at the front desk or a clinician after a phone call. The new flow lives in the new shell and walks four steps: find the patient, choose the questionnaire, answer it, add contact details. Patient lookup searches Anima, your EHR and PDS at once, and can pick up the patient currently open in EMIS or SystmOne; if Anima has no record of the patient, you can create one on the spot from their EHR details without leaving the flow. The questionnaire step offers your practice's custom questionnaires alongside the standard ones, lets you star favourites, includes the same emergency screening as the patient app, and supports photo uploads. Because the request goes through the same questionnaire engine as the patient app, it's triaged, summarised by Annie and queued exactly like a request the patient submitted themselves. Speak to your account manager for early access.
Fixes and improvements
The dashboard's In Progress count now stays current as patients complete questionnaires, refreshing every 30 seconds while the page is open.
Fixed the dashboard showing zero results for standalone practices.
Reassigning a request after adding a comment no longer resends an old assignment note over the newer comment.
Multi-line message templates now insert in one piece at the cursor, instead of splitting around your footer.
Viewing a closed message conversation from Patient Management now opens the messaging modal, matching the Closed Requests dashboard.
Topic auto-assignment is no longer capped at 100 topics, so you can set an auto-assignment for every questionnaire.
The Request Information screen now shows a patient's stated availability for AI-questionnaire-agent requests.
Custom questionnaire requests now show the answers as a Questionnaire answers section, and a proxy's phone number is shown separately from the patient's own.
Fixed a banner incorrectly showing "query requests not enabled" on non-query request pages.
Fixed assignee filters showing an empty list when the requests page was opened cold.
Triage requests are now only auto-booked into slots on the day the request was received (UK time), never a later day — if no slot is left that day, you'll be told rather than a wrong-day slot being booked.
Booking links can now be sent even when no matching slots are currently free, so patients on embargoed slot types can check again later.
The SystmOne appointment slot picker no longer shows duplicate embargoed slot types, and released embargo slots are no longer hidden when filtering by slot type.
Fixed appointment booking failing for multi-site hub practices — the sidebar no longer selects a hub you can't access.
Patient sign-off messages now correctly include the appointment location.
Appointment invites now use the patient's current mobile number after a demographics refresh, and a mobile is only required when one will actually be texted.
A clinician's own appointment-invite description is no longer overwritten by the patient's original request title.
Fixed under-reporting of same-day GP appointment capacity in NHS GPAD data for EMIS practices.
Appointment-statistics reports now show the correct UK local time.
Consultations filed via the EMIS Transaction API now correctly link to existing clinical problems, and filing a SNOMED code into an existing EMIS problem no longer creates a duplicate.
Fixed an issue where a patient's usual GP could be overwritten after a partial SystmOne sync.
Refreshing a patient's demographics now pulls their latest contact details from the EHR before updating the screen.
The EMIS connection Test in Settings no longer spins forever for users whose connection needs activating.
Clinicians can create a patient record directly from the EHR when filing a request for someone Anima has no record of.
Searching for a patient who only has a profile at a different practice now correctly shows "not found" rather than "unauthorised".
Patients with a matching accountless record can now view the outcome of a closed request.
Fixed a crash in the admin user settings modal when viewing a colleague's settings, and admins can now save a change to a colleague's appointment capacity without the save failing.
Fixed the Documents "Assigned to me" folder occasionally filling with thousands of already-saved documents after switching tabs.
Fixed multi-site practices seeing documents stuck in "queued to save" after a save to record, and force-save now clears them.
Scanning a large batch is now dramatically faster and produces much smaller files (a 40-page batch went from around 258 MB to 28 MB).
If the scanner stops part-way through a batch, the pages already scanned are kept and the scanner's real error message is shown, instead of everything being discarded as "cancelled".
Uploading an encrypted or password-protected PDF now shows a clear message instead of failing silently.
