How Anima handles large documents (and what to do if one won’t attach)

Updated this week

Overview

If a document won’t attach when saving to the patient record, it’s not due to file size.

Anima automatically compresses documents, so large or high-resolution files are not an issue.

What causes this issue?

In rare cases, a document may contain too much clinical information for Anima to safely summarise.

When this happens:

  • The document will still appear in Anima

  • You’ll see a red warning flag

  • The document won’t be processed or attached automatically

💡 This is very uncommon and usually only happens with very large or complex documents (e.g. very long medical reports).

What are my options?

Option 1: Split the document

  • Break the document into smaller sections

  • Upload and process each part separately

Option 2: Process outside Anima

  • Download the document

  • Upload it directly into your clinical system

Option 3: Save without attaching

  1. Untick “Attach document” (bottom right when saving)

  2. Save the record in Anima

  3. Download the document file

  4. Manually upload it to the patient record

Will I get an alert if this happens?

Email alerts are only triggered if the document cannot be opened at all (for example, if it is encrypted).

If a document exceeds the clinical information threshold:

  • It will still appear in Anima

  • You’ll see a warning flag instead

  • You can choose how to handle it
